Transportation lobby group offers gas tax giveaway
Publication: WV Public Radio
A group that seeks to improve transportation in the state is offering a gas tax holiday. West Virginians for Better Transportation will pay for a year's worth of state gas taxes to a contest winner every week until Labor Day. Winners will get a $250 gasoline debit card, which is about the average West Virginia motorist's annual gas tax cost. The group wants to draw attention to what it calls a relative bargain on gas taxes, which help fund road maintenance and construction. To enter, people simply have to provide some contact information after using the gas tax calculator on the group's Web site. Joe DeNault is a spokesman for West Virginians for Better Transportation.
