Group sponsors drawings for $250 gas cards
Publication: Charleston Daily Mail
West Virginians who fill out an online form that estimates how much they pay in state gas taxes annually are eligible for eight weekly drawings for a $250 gas card. According to West Virginians for Better Transportation, $250 is the average amount a state resident pays in 32-cents-a-gallon state gas taxes annually. The organization said the contest seeks to draw more attention to its gas tax calculator, which was unveiled in May. The organization said it hopes to educate West Virginians about how much they are contributing to the state Road Fund. The fund is used to maintain and pave roads and bridges; to match federal grant funding for roads; and to install guardrails and other safety measures. West Virginians for Better Transportation is a nonprofit coalition of state businesses and groups including many related to the highway industry. The organization was established in 2006 to highlight the need to bolster the state Road Fund. The coalition's Web site is at www.keepwvmoving.org.
